Events

I attend all sorts of events each year and every one is different – as far as possible I try to tailor my demonstration to the theme of the event. Some are about making lots of noise and chucking sawdust around to entertain the crowd, some are more about education, sometimes giving people a chance to try their hand at new or old skills, talking to people about the tools and techniques, some about displaying the finished products and some simply about selling things. Most events contain all these elements in varying combinations. Sometimes I’ll be leaving a permanent feature behind on the site, sometimes I’ll be making ‘quickies’ that spectators can carry away after watching them made.

Sales

Garden Shows to Craft Fairs to Car Boot Sales, my products are so varied, with prices ranging from a few pence to hundreds of pounds.

Demonstrations

Depending on the venue I may be demonstrating carving with chainsaws or the rather quieter electric tools, or offering people the chance to try their hand with some traditional hand tools. You might even come across a medieval carpenter looking a bit like me, working pretty much the way he did a thousand years ago.

Displays

Wherever I go, indoors or out, anything up to a couple of tonnes of wood goes with me, covering the spectrum you can see on the Products pages. And the classic Landrover that gets me and my stuff there is often a point of interest in itself!

This exhibition is in the Visitor Centre at Mere Sands Wood Local Nature Reserve, December 2008.

Sometimes I’m not the only one showing off, as my duck noticed at Kinmel Park in August 2008!
